A media feature takes effort to earn. Yet many experts share it once, collect a few likes and move on. That leaves most of its value unused.
A single placement can fuel a full month of content and keep working for years. Here is a simple plan.
Week 1: Announce it properly
Share the feature with context
Post the feature on your main social channels with a short note on why the topic matters, not just “I was featured”. Tag the publication and writer where appropriate, and thank them.
Add it to your website
Create or update a media page listing your features with the publication name, date and link. Add a line such as “As featured in” to your homepage or About page where it makes sense. Only list outlets where you were genuinely featured.
Tell your list
Send a short email to clients and contacts. Lead with the most useful idea from the piece and link to the full article.
Week 2: Break it into ideas
A good feature contains several ideas. Pull them out one at a time:
- Turn your strongest quote into a simple quote graphic.
- Expand one point into a short LinkedIn post or article.
- Record a one-minute video explaining the idea in your own words.
- Answer a question the feature raised but did not fully cover.
Each piece should stand on its own and link back to the original feature.
Week 3: Put it into your sales process
Credibility is most valuable at the moment someone is deciding. Use the feature where those decisions happen:
- Proposals and pitch decks. Add a credibility slide with your recent features.
- Email signature. A single line linking to your latest feature.
- Follow-up emails. Share it with prospects who are considering you.
- Sales conversations. Reference it naturally: “We talked about exactly this in a recent feature.”
Week 4: Feed search and future opportunities
Strengthen your search presence
Link to the feature from your website, LinkedIn and other profiles. Keep your name, title and description consistent with how the feature describes you. Connected, consistent mentions help search engines and AI assistants understand who you are.
Update your bios
Add the feature to your speaker bio, author bio and podcast guest one-sheet. Hosts and event organisers look for this kind of social proof.
Pitch the next opportunity
A recent feature makes your next pitch stronger. Mention it when approaching podcasts, events or other publications.
Keep it working long term
Revisit older features every few months. Reshare evergreen pieces when the topic is back in the news, refresh quote graphics and keep your media page up to date. Over time, the collection of features becomes more persuasive than any single one.
A note on rights and logos
Linking to and quoting from your own feature is generally fine. If you want to reproduce full articles, cover images or publication logos, check the publisher’s guidelines first, as many have specific rules about how their name and content can be used.
